- Dr S Smith – Chair of Trustees
I am now retired but was an inspector of primary and secondary schools, and Lead Inspector of primary schools for Ofsted, from 2002 until 2015.
I entered the teaching profession in 1977 and taught in four secondary schools, two selective and two non-selective, over a period of 20 years, holding middle and senior leadership posts for most of my career. In 1997 I was appointed to a team which set up the new Education Authority of the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead, when the county authority of Berkshire was broken up into six Unitary Authorities. In 2001 I moved to the London Borough of Bexley and was appointed a Local Authority senior school improvement officer working with primary, secondary, special schools and academies in Bexley, and across London and the South East.
Prior to my appointment as Chair of Trustees I was a governor of two Bexley schools.
- Mrs B Ojo - Vice Chair of Trustees
I have been involved in education and management for over twenty five years. I worked for the Greater London Council and several London Boroughs before retiring from the public sector as head of Lifelong learning and Youth Service in Bexley. I have been a Governor of several primary schools over the years including being on the Governing Board of a local college. More recently I have worked in international development. I served as a VSO volunteer in Africa working to increase access to quality education for girls in Northern Nigeria and a brief stint in Rwanda on improving school management and teaching English. I do some part time work as a trainer and serve in several capacities in the voluntary sector. Prior to joining the Unity Trust, I was a governor at a local primary school.
- Mr K Bradshaw
I am a communications specialist, with experience as a journalist for some of the country's biggest news organisations. I currently work at Sky News on a whole range of stories across TV, radio and online.
I've previously worked in corporate communications in the public sector, in both the police service and NHS. In these roles I handled publicity and public relations for high-profile campaigns and managed crisis communications on sensitive matters of policy.
I hope to use my experience in marketing and communications to help further improve the schools of Unity Academy Trust.
I have previously served as a Trustee at the University of Sussex Students' Union, where I sat on the Board of Trustees and also served as a Company Director.
I went to primary and secondary schools in the London Borough of Bexley, where I lived with my family since a young age.
- Mrs S Brooks - Trust CEO
I feel privileged to hold the position of Interim CEO of Unity Academy Trust.
I believe it is essential to support all children to experience a successful start to their education, and to foster a lifelong love of learning, both within Bexley and beyond.
I have a passion to help others improve the life-chances of all children, both within Bexley and beyond and I have valuable experience in the primary education sector to be able to do this. I have held the roles of Head Teacher and Executive Head Teacher of a federation of schools, one of which is a National Support School and lead school for the Bexley Teaching School Alliance. Currently, I am also CEO of Ignis Academy Trust in Bexley, a National Leader of Education and Ofsted Inspector.
I look forward to working with Unity Academy Trust for the benefit of our Bexley children.
